Tasty and Affordable Homemade Horse Treats!

In the Tictac Equestrian office today, we have been looking at some interesting recipes to make your horse some yummy treats; easily and with minimal cost!  One of the easiest ones that we found is called fruit surprise. Yum!J There is no baking required and we are sure that your horses will love it!

You will need:

• 2 cups of feed (either mix or pony cubes)
• 1 banana - chopped
• 1 apple - diced
• 6 strawberries - sliced
• 4 baby carrots - sliced
• 1 cup of molasses
• 4 mints - crushed

Mix all of the ingredients together then serve to your horse. We are sure that they will love it :)

There are lots of homemade horse treat recipes online to save you money and also give your horse something a little different from the norm. Most of them you can make with things that you just have in your house. Rachael’s Corner: Tasty Homemade Horse Treats

In the Tictac Equestrian office today, we have been looking at some interesting recipes to make your horse some yummy treats easily and with minimal cost!  One of the easiest ones that we found is called carrot and apple cake. Yum! J

You will need:

·         1 carrot

·         1 apple

·         1 cup of molasses

·         2 ½ cups of oats

·         2 tablespoons of oil

To start, preheat the oven to 300 degrees, grate the carrot and apple then mix with the oats, molasses and oil. Divide the mixture into bite size balls and place the mixture on a baking tray. Put the tray in your oven and bake for forty minutes until golden brown then cool for at least four hours in your fridge to make sure they’re nice and cool for your horse to munch.

Likit Boredom Buster

At Tic Tac Equestrian, we know that winter boredom is bad enough for humans but we've got plenty of gadgets and TV boxsets to see in the long winter nights with a smile! For horses it's a tougher challenge staying sharp and satisfied having to spend long hours in the stable, but have no fear, before you start hooking up a flatscreen and an HD copy of Black Beauty there are plenty of fun ways to stave off the winter blues without breaking the bank and help keep your equine buddies full of beans and not just fed up!

One of our favourites is the Likit Boredom Buster (£20.99). As most horse lovers will know, lickable treats are universally loved by our four-legged friends, they can't get enough of them, and the fantastic range of diverse and delicious treats from Likit are among the best.

Their unique Boredom Buster Treats consist of a small plastic ball, suspended from a bouncy cord which you can hang inside the stable - just not too close to any walls! You pop your Horse's favourite Likit inside and watch them go! The more they try to control the ball, the more it spins, bounces and jumps, making it a fun way to make the most of a good treat!

Likit - Boredom Licked

Likit- as it says on the pack, my pony loves it. No more ‘boredom’ at our stables.

I wasn't much into Likit until a recent purchase for Cavallo Boots arrived with a free gift of Likit treat bars. I love the boots but the treat bars even more. Incidentally, I bought them from Tic Tac Equestrian and they give every customer a free Likit treat with every purchase. Can you imagine if ASOS did the same with chocolate bars, retail heaven!  Anyway, I am amazed how quickly my 20 year old loan pony, Maddie has taken to Likits, they keep her entertained for hours.  I had read that the high sugar content can send them loopy but this hasn’t been my experience. I use it as a treat and from reading the packaging they have lots of other vitamins and minerals as well. The Likit treat bars are fab too, nearly had a piece myself, they look like chocolate bars and are great treats on the move. Maddie’s favourite is the apple flavour. My auntie bought her the tongue twister and boredom breaker for Christmas, best gift ever. We moved her stables in the autumn and she really wasn't happy, for the first time ever she started showing signs of boredom. However after Santa came, with her Likit puzzles she seems much more content.

I know these aren’t completely wholesome treats, but in moderation, they are perfect for my pony. She is so compliant when I have a bar in my pocket. And  as for the stable Likits, my pony is fine on half a day, I certainly have only seen the benefits and so far no drawbacks.
